How Does The Coaching Program Work?

Step 1: Assess

Once the coach and client have met and agreed they are a good fit, TMBC uses three assessment tools to determine the areas of focus for the Coaching.

  • SET: Strengths Engagement Track
This 16-question personal assessment tool provides individuals with a metric to measure the extent to which their Strengths are currently engaged at work. The SET is the basis for understanding what actions clients can take to increase the time they spend leveraging their strengths.
  • Coaching Questionnaire
This comprehensive 8-page questionnaire asks clients a series of self-reflective questions regarding career/Coaching goals, challenges they are currently experiencing in the workplace or home, and development areas to focus on. Designed to get people thinking about what they want to create in their lives, this questionnaire gives the coach the opportunity to obtain some useful client history and future goals.
  • Goal Setting Coaching Session
In this 90-minute session, the results of the SET are reviewed and discussed. The coach also asks a series of clarifying questions about the information provided in the Coaching Questionnaire to drill down and determine any patterns of behavior and belief structures that may limit the client's success. This conversation also involves defining the areas the client wants to focus on and partnering to determine specific goals for the Coaching relationship. The client then commits to these goals and can immediately start taking the actions necessary to bring them to fruition.

Step 2: Act

Every 2 weeks, the coach and client meet for a 45-minute Coaching session. Prior to the session, the client provides the coach with a written update about the actions he or she has taken since the last session, the learning breakthroughs/successes experienced as a result of those actions, and any challenges encountered. The client also provides the desired specific outcome for the upcoming session. This information enables the coach to fully prepare before coming to the call, so that the session can be used as efficiently as possible.

TMBC's Coaching style is deliberately “freeform,” allowing us to meet the unique needs of the client at any given time. The most powerful way to effect new approaches and strategies is to focus on situational challenges the client has faced in the preceding week. Regardless of the content of any individual session, actions are determined for moving the client forward toward reaching his or her personal or professional goals.

Depending on the focus of the coaching relationship we concentrate on different things such as:

  • Personal power – having a strong sense of self-confidence and a deep knowledge that we have powerful and unique strengths that we can leverage to make a greater impact.
  • Intentionality – thinking and acting “on purpose,” and in deliberate congruence with our values, strengths and who we are.
  • Building bonds – improving our ability to connect with others and form strong relationships.
  • Initiative – overcoming procrastination and taking action.
  • Resilience – handling adversity and setbacks.
  • Emotional self-control – keeping destructive emotions in check.
  • Teamwork and collaboration – building powerful strengths-based teams and a healthy, collaborative work culture.
  • Powerful communication and influencing skills – motivating others, using dialogue as a management tool, being able to persuade and negotiate more effectively.
  • Conflict management – being able to work with difficult people and resolve differences to your satisfaction.
  • Stress management – enhancing our ability to work under stress and pressure.

Step 3: Evaluate

TMBC evaluates the impact of the Strengths Coaching relationship in three ways:
  • Personal Ongoing Evaluation:
Coaching is an ongoing learning process in which a client is likely to experience many emotional and behavioral breakthroughs. Coach and client continually evaluate the results of the actions taken, change behaviors/strategies when necessary, and identify how to apply what the client has learned to other areas of life.
  • Quality Assurance:
At appropriate intervals of the Coaching relationship, clients will be asked to complete a comprehensive survey regarding their Coaching experience with TMBC. They will have the opportunity to provide both qualitative and quantitative feedback on their Strengths Coach and the results they have achieved as a result of the Coaching. This feedback will be used to track client progress, enabling coaches to better support their clients.
  • SET: Strengths Engagement Track
At the end of the Coaching engagement, clients will have the opportunity to retake the SET assessment to determine the how far they have come on their strengths-path and the extent to which they now use their strengths as a result of the Coaching
